Scan to BIM: Is there any other process through which BIM models can be developed for Renovation projects

Scan to BIM & Point Cloud to BIM is a process which is implemented by Architecture, Engineering and Construction industry professionals for surveying the as-built building and then creating parametric models from the data obtained from the survey process. Scan to BIM is a comprehensive process wherein two independent activities are performed which include conducting the survey of the building for gathering as-built information and developing precise BIM models from that information. 

With the implementation of laser scanning technology design and construction professionals can extract maximum as-built information in minimum time. Extremely high quality laser scanners are used for scanning as-built buildings, which can capture everything that exist in the surface of the building. 

For conducting survey process, professionals are required to install the laser scanners in the right place so that building can be scanned swiftly. For the detailed survey of the building, it is scanned from multiple angles and sides and the data extracted from different scans is combined together. 

The combined laser scanned data provides, exclusive picture of the building in terms of the information associated to different building disciplines such as architecture, structure and MEP. As soon as laser scanned data or point cloud data is provided to architectural and engineering design firms, design and construction professionals do indexing and scaling for it. Indexing and scaling for laser scanned data is performed in Revit itself. 

When indexing technology was not available in Revit, design and construction professionals used to optimize other application such ReCap 

When point cloud data is effectively indexed it is linked in Revit and parametric models are easily developed with its assistance. Last but not least, extremely precise and informative parametric models are developed when point cloud modeling services are executed.
