Effective design development is a prerequisite for developing high performing buildings!
Before dealing with any issue regarding the
development of building design, I would like to emphasize on what is a high
performing building. Well a high performing building is a building that makes
the best use of its mechanism to perform against all odds. That means a high
performing building is a building that uses reasonable amount of energy for
satisfying its energy requirements, whose structural framework is strong enough
to tackle all types of loads and which can be used for a long time by its
occupants.
Construction of such buildings was not that easy for
AEC professionals a few decades back when BIM and CAD technology were far from their reach. Adoption of both CAD
and BIM has huge impacts on construction projects as they can now be executed
swiftly and seamlessly. As CAD software
transformed the drafting process similarly BIM software transformed modeling
process. And both drafting and modeling phases of construction project are
extremely important as accurate drafting can have positive impacts on the
execution of modeling services.
In other words drawings created during drafting
process are extremely precious for BIM modelers, because the information
incorporated in these drawings is used as a reference point by modelers when
they generate 3D models. AutoCAD helps in generating extremely immaculate
architectural, structural and MEP drawings that are used by design development
teams for generating multidiscipline models.
Building design transforms greatly when Revit
modeling is carried out for different building disciplines. Models developed in
Revit’s environment are highly pristine when it comes to accuracy of the
information incorporated in them. That is because they are developed with the
close cooperation and collaboration of all the design members. Correct information
is the key for generating potent models that are abundantly important for
constructing efficient buildings.
When 3D models for different disciplines are
developed in Revit, energy analysis can also be performed for them. BIM models belonging to different building
disciplines can be spontaneously changed into energy analytical models which
are used for analyzing energy requirements. Energy analysis conducted on the
building models help design and construction professionals in knowing the
energy demands of the building as well as in revamping its design. Improved or immaculate building design
results in the construction of high performing buildings.
