4D BIM and its contributions for AEC professionals!

There are countless contributions and beneficiations of Building Information Modeling for AEC professionals in terms of project execution. As far as I know execution of building project is one of the most difficult tasks as it involves too many complexities and hardships for architects and engineers. Architects and engineers are together accountable for the successful execution of construction project as they have to look after the design complexities of building design. Architect, structural engineer and MEP engineers have to be responsible for designing the multidiscipline building systems such as architecture, structure and MEP systems. So BIM is equally beneficial for architects, structural engineers and MEP engineers when it comes to designing building systems.

The architectural design developed by architects improves when BIM models are developed for it. That means when a design is represented with the assistance of BIM model chances of its improvement increase by manifolds.  That is because BIM models can be altered as many times as possible by design and construction professionals during the design development phase. In other words BIM models are a great source of design improvement since implementation of changes in them is quite easy.

When it comes to explaining the contributions of 4D BIM for AEC professionals I would say they are endless. A 4D BIM model is developed by design and construction professionals with the addition of a new dimension that is ‘time’ to 3D model.  Addition of a new dimension means addition of more information in the model. When time is linked to 3D model, design and construction professionals become capable of developing construction schedules with the assistance of 4D BIM. Construction schedules developed by design and construction professionals help in explaining onsite construction time table or routine to AEC professionals.

4D BIM also supports ACE professionals in developing 4D simulations that explains step by step construction process. 4D simulations and construction schedules developed with the support of BIM models provide transparency to AEC professionals in terms of step by step construction process and the time needed for its accomplishment.

The clarity provided by 4D BIM to building stakeholders helps in better management of construction process.
