Relevance of clash detection services for construction projects

BIM clash detection solutions are integral part of building process as they are indispensable for detecting clashes between multidiscipline models. The need for clash detection is inevitable since multiple models are developed by design and construction professionals for accomplishing construction of a building.  As separate 3D models are created for architecture, structure and MEP it becomes necessary for AEC professionals to figure out whether there remain  any design inconsistencies between the models or not. Structural engineers and MEP engineers are liable to create design for their disciplines based on architects’ specifications which are based on architectural design.

So whether the specifications are appropriately followed by structural engineers and MEP engineers are all checked out during clash detection. The independent building models that are developed by independent design development teams have to be coordinated once clashes are detected between them and sorted out as well.

Models cannot be coordinated without sorting out design inconsistencies between them which is done during clash detection process. So once every design development team completes their task of developing 3D models it is followed by execution of clash detection services. Here comes the time when Navisworks comes into picture and helps design and construction professionals in eliminating the clashes between different models by identifying them successfully.

Clash tests are run by AEC professionals with the support of clash detective tool that is incorporated in Navisworks. Navisworks is also an Autodesk product like AutoCAD, Revit, and 3ds Max etc and it supports all the files that are developed with the assistance of these Autodesk applications. Clashes can be identified by Navisworks between individual 3D models and from a composite master model that contains all the elements of multidiscipline models in it. Its mechanism is such that clashes identified during the process are highlighted with colors so that they can be easily recognized when AEC professionals want to resolve them.

Effective solutions are provided for the clashes by the team quickly and the individual 3D models are assembled together for making a master building model. In this way errors and design inconsistencies are completely eliminated from the models which finally lead to flawless construction.
