Renovation of large buildings is often understood as one of the most daunting task by AEC professionals due to the complications involved in them.  According to AEC professionals, earlier renovation of a large building used to be much more difficult than carrying out fresh construction projects. Prior to scan toBIM technology the scanning of the structure used to be really difficult and stressful for architects and engineers. Manual scanning of the existing structure by AEC professionals used to involve and consume a lot of time. Apart from time renovation projects often used to cross expected budgets and really used to have negative implications for building owners.

But with the adoption of scan to BIM technology all the complexities involved in renovation projects have been successfully tackled by AEC professionals. Instead of manual surveying laser scanning technology has been used for scanning the building. Once data is collected by the survey team it is quickly delivered to an engineering design firm that is accountable for creating as-built models for the building in question. The as built model incorporates and shows the entire building data to BIM modelers who can then develop 3D BIM models for the building.  As-built models and the newly developed 3D BIM models are tremendously significant for modelers in understanding the composition and geometry of the as-built structure. In-depth knowledge about the existing structure can be gained by AEC professionals with the assistance of BIM model which finally help them in smooth execution of renovation project.
