Revit: An effective tool for performing collaboration
Autodesk Revit, useful BIM
modeling software, facilitates users to perform BIM collaboration in an
efficient manner. This software assists to gain effective insight into spatial
relationships and change management. This software enables users in sharing project
information with each other and developing an accurate 3D coordination model by
integrating the 3D architectural, structural and MEP model.
Revit has total five different versions – Revit Architecture, Structure, MEP, LT and BDS
(Building Design Suite Premium & Ultimate).
How to perform external collaboration
(file linking) using Revit
It is required for all
project members to work using particular Revit version (for example, Revit
2013) so that they can properly open the project and make links to another
project files without any hassle. One important note on this software is - any
version of it is compatible with its later versions, not with the previous
versions.
Guidelines for Internal
Collaboration (Worksets)
It is also required that the
product build number must match when team members use the worksets. It is not
mandatory for external teams to work on similar build, but for internal team it
is necessary to work on the same build. Professionals can get the product build
number by clicking on Product’s ‘Help’
menu and then ‘About Revit’.
Revit Collaboration
Except Revit LT, the coordination
monitor and interference check tools of other versions allows users to make coordination
architectural, structural and MEP engineering disciplines and detect clashes
immediately when they link the 3D model of other discipline with their model.
Benefits in performing
collaboration
· Helps viewers to view the comprehensive 3D coordination model
effectively
· Assists to control the linked model elements graphically
Helps in identifying interferences between the host and linked model
Coordination Monitor
· Assists to control the linked model elements graphically
Helps in identifying interferences between the host and linked model
Coordination Monitor
Coordination monitor is a
tool of Revit that allows the host file’s elements (except the LT version) to
observe changes in companion elements in the linked file.
Advantages of using
Coordination Monitor
·
Helps to choose standard elements (i.e., floor, stair, ceiling)
in the host as well as linked models and observe the effect of one another for
making changes
· Assists to select particular elements in the linked model
(not applicable to the Architecture and Structure version) and copy it to the
host model
Interference Check
The interference check
tool of Revit (except the LT version) allows to check clashes between the host
and linked model. This tool assists to identify interferences within the host
model as well.
Revit helps BIM professionals in enhancing their productivity and producing
superior quality 3D coordination model for their building project.
