Process of designing strong structure

Structural detailing is optimized by structural engineers for developing strong structures. Detailing is the process of developing structural drawings which include structural shop drawings and erection drawings. These drawings are very significant because they help in representing design of structural framework. That means if the drawings are not generated appropriately it can have great implications or affects of the health of the structure.

Structural framework of the building is responsible for holding or resisting the entire load of the building so it should be very strong. So to develop robust structure structural detailing services are executed along with structural analysis.

The process of structural detailing requires the involvement of architects, structural engineers and detailers. At first, architect and structural engineers sent their specification to the engineering service providing company that is responsible for executing structural detailing services. These specifications are meant to be used by detailers who develop structural shop drawings and erection drawings. It is the responsibility of detailers that they read all the specifications fully and make every attempt to understand them. 

So after carefully going through all the specifications that are provided by architect and structural engineers, detailers start generating their drawings. Detailers have to be very careful in terms of accuracy of the drawings since these drawings are used by fabricators for creating or fabricating structural components. It is the shop drawings that are utilized by fabricators to develop structural components hence these drawings contain all the necessary information related to the dimensions of the components.

So once detailers finish generating structural shop drawings and erection drawings they are again delivered back to structural engineer for revisions or corrections. Suppose while reviewing the drawings mistakes are found by structural engineer, they are again delivered back to detailer along with remarks and comments. After reviewing the remarks sent by structural engineer, detailer makes necessary modifications in the drawings. This ends up the detailing process after which the drawings are finally delivered back to the clients.

Structural analysis is further carried out for the structural design, wherein the design is analyzed for checking its capacity to resist the load. This is how structural engineers develop strong structure.
