Comparison between CAD drafting and manual drafting

CAD which is the abbreviation of ‘Computer aided-design’ has brought humongous changes in the functioning of construction industry. Today the entire Architecture Engineering and Construction industry has been swept away by CAD technology.  Computer aided designs have overtaken the role of manual drawings which used to be created by architects and engineers. Earlier, the development of construction drawings used to consume a lot of time, since there was no powerful tool available to architects and engineers apart from paper and pencil. So manual drafting was never considered that accurate because chances of human errors were very high in that.

CAD technology is credited for paradigm shift in construction industry. With its advent and implementation the construction industry has grown tremendously.

Data safety: Previously the manual drawings developed by architects or engineers were required to be saved in folders, which involved a great risk of data loss.  There used to be chances wherein folders used to missing. So in such cases engineers had to create the drawings from the scratch which used to be very tiring. However, there is no such data related risk involved  in CAD drawings, which can be safely saved in computer folders and can be accessed any time by design teams.

Digital 3D models can be generated fast: Another most important advantage of CAD drawings is that 3D models can be generated with their assistance. These 3D models are developed to represent the design of multidiscipline building systems and highly crucial building information is captured in them.

Revisions or modifications are easy to make: Be it manual drawings or CAD drawings, the need for revisions and modifications is always felt by drafters. But in the case of manual drawings modifications are not at all easy to implement. Sometimes engineers have to create the drawings from the beginning. However, there is no such problem with CAD drawings, which can be modified at any point of time by a few mouse clicks. Highly accurate shop drawings, architectural drawings, structural shop drawings and erection drawings can be developed by optimizing CAD technology.

CAD drafting save a lot of time: Compared to manual drafting, CAD drafting takes considerably less time. CAD technology is credited for its speed. CAD drafting services are executed by CAD technicians who are well trained in software applications. AutoCAD is used by CAD technicians to perform drafting services.

Accuracy: Accuracy is another important factor due to which computer aided designs are used worldwide in AEC industry.
