A brief description of what comes under construction drawings

Construction drawings are very important for architects and engineers in carrying out the actual construction on the proposed locations because of the details available in them. Construction drawings work as foundation stones for constructing a building. These drawings are the orthographic projections and are optimized by architects, engineers, architectural contractors, and construction firms etc for the execution of a construction project.

Construction drawings which are now developed with the assistance of CAD technology during the drafting phase of the project life cycle are utilized to communicate the design the building. However, traditionally construction drawings used to be generated manually by architects and engineers, which used to consume a huge time and efforts.

Construction drawings

Site plans: These plans are very important to understand site related details such as information regarding proposed location and its surroundings. It includes information like nearby road layouts, layouts of walkways, drainage layouts, information regarding gardening area etc associated to the building in question.

Floor plans: Floor plans are designed by architects and they provide detailed information regarding a building floor. A floor plan covers location and description of each and every element of a floor. It clearly describes the position of different rooms like living room, dining room, bedroom, washrooms and kitchen etc. It also talks about the location of doors, windows and stairs etc.

Elevations help in showing and defining the outer appearance of the proposed building to the clients or to the teams involved in the building project. In other words it provides a clear understanding regarding a building’s exterior looks.

Foundation plans: Foundation plans describe foundation details such as information regarding footing, piers and columns etc.

Assembly drawings: These drawings are used to show different parts of a whole item or machine. So in these drawings layouts of separate parts of a machine are shown.

MEP drawings:  MEP drawings consist of electrical, mechanical and plumbing drawings wherein layouts of different MEP systems are drawn. These drawings help in understanding the design of MEP systems.

So construction drawings are very crucial for understanding building’s design in detail.
